The Tom Sizemore Hollywood Online Interview - The Transcripts.

We applied for permission to print transcripts of Tom’s interview from Hollywood.com. Their reply was the following. "I forwarded your message to my superiors and they haven't responded for several weeks. So while they are making up their minds, I'll tell you that for now, we have absolutely no policy, which I am aware of, regarding the thing which you wish to do. So you could do it or not, but I don't know yet what Hollywood Online's official position on that would be."

For this reason, and the fact that we have heard nothing else since 10th March 1998, we have decided to go ahead and print the transcripts. Hope you enjoy them. We may be in prison as you read this!!!!

1) Working with Monsters on The Set of ‘The Relic’

"Well the creature was there, the scene where I’m in the water, right before the end and he rears up. I was right there. And that, actually, was one of the more difficult things to do, was to act with the creature, because we all know it’s not a creature (laughs). I as an actor know it’s not a creature and, you know, acting afraid for your life can be difficult especially...I’m not one given to believing in ghosts, so to speak, so that was hard for me, to interact with the creature, but actors have been doing it, you know, since the beginning of time. Frankenstein...the Wearwolf...Jaws. I mean Richard Dreyfus, who I know, knew that shark wasn’t going to eat him and he had to act like he thought it was."

2) Working With Humans

"It is a little different when you’re with human beings. They impose...they can be imposing in a way that something inanimate can’t, you know. Doing a scene with Robert De Niro was different to doing a scene with a creature. I mean Robert De Niro brings with him a certain history and integrity and dignity and that makes it different, you know? It’s more realistic acting with people."

3) The Controversy Surrounding ‘Natural Born Killers’

"Myself, I try to steer clear of controversy. I’m good friends with Oliver. Obviously he makes controversial movies and he doesn’t steer clear of controversy. I think that John Grisham, obviously he’s a power broker now and he can speak out and people are going to like what he says because he’s had such a successful string of books that have been made into movies. Everyone has their opinion and he has his opinion and you’re going to write it down because of this and, um, like I said he’s been very successful. He’s made people a lot of money. His opinions about what we did on Natural Born Killers, to me, I find his opinions uneducated. He doesn’t know the nature of what...I think you’ve got to look at that movie as...Natural Born Killers was a serious movie but it’s meant to alarm. It’s not meant to, I don’t think, enrage young people to go out and kill people. That wasn’t what Oliver Stone was saying. He was saying that the media and violence and fame, that there’s such a premium on this...fame. That fame has become so important in twentieth century America that it can lead to the enshrinement in the hall of fame for misdeeds, you know. And Lee Harvey Oswald is as famous as Jonas ???. It’s not that Oswald shot the president, who knows if he did or didn’t but you know what I mean he just was sounding some kind of an alarm bell, more or less. I don’t think he was trying to incite people, I know he wasn’t trying to incite violence, where Grisham says the movie’s irresponsible to young people and I disagree with him.

4) THE ‘HOOVER’ PROJECT

I WAS PLAYING J EDGAR HOOVER AND, I DON’T KNOW ALL THE INS AND OUTS OF WHY THE PROJECT WAS CANCELLED BUT IT WAS. I THINK THERE WERE PROBLEMS. THE PRODUCER’S NAME WAS GARY LUCAZY. HE USED TO BE THE PRESIDENT OF PARAMOUNT. HE’S A VERY DIGNIFIED MAN. AND THE DIRECTOR, BRYAN GIBSON, I THINK YOU PROBABLY ALL HAVE MET. THE HOMOSEXUAL ASPECT OF THE SCRIPT THAT THERE WERE SOME PEOPLE WHO DID NOT FEEL THAT THERE WAS ENOUGH PROOF THAT HOOVER WAS HOMOSEXUAL. THAT WE COULDN’T DEPICT HIM IN THE FASHION THAT WE WERE GOING TO. SO WE COULDN’T DO THE PROJECT BASICALLY. BECAUSE IT WAS A VERY SIGNIFICANT PART OF OUR SCRIPT.

5) J EDGAR HOOVER’S ALLEGED HOMOSEXUALITY

IT WAS WELL TOLD, IT WAS WELL WRITTEN. BUT THERE WERE THINGS IN IT THAT WERE SHOCKING. THE WAY HE PUNISHED HOMOSEXUALS AND THE WAY HE USED HIS POWER. IT WASN’T ONE LITTLE THING, YOU KNOW. HE WAS A HOMOSEXUAL. WELL, I DON’T KNOW IF HE WAS OR HE WASN’T. HE WENT TO DINNER AND HE DROVE TO WORK WITH THE SAME MAN FOR 45 YEARS, CLIVE TOLSEN, AND HE HAD LUNCH WITH HIM EVERY DAY. AND HE LIVED WITH HIS MOTHER TIL HE WAS 43. HE NEVER HAD A FEMALE INVOLVEMENT. HE NEVER MARRIED. HE NEVER HAD A GIRLFRIEND. YOU KNOW, THERE WERE A LOT OF SIGNS THAT HE HAD A RELATIONSHIP WITH CLIVE TOLSEN. SO WE WERE TAKING THE APPROACH THAT HE HAD THIS RELATIONSHIP WITH CLIVE TOLSEN. THAT THEY WERE INVOLVED INTIMATELY AND WE DEPICTED IT, WE DEPICTED THE BEGINNINGS OF THE RELATIONSHIP. SO, A GREAT DEAL OF THAT, WHEN YOU DO BIO-PICS, YOU’RE GOING TO BE GUESSING AT THE EXACT THINGS THAT WERE SAID. EVEN THOUGH WE KNOW CERTAIN THINGS HAPPENED, WE WEREN’T IN THE ROOM WHEN THEY HAPPENED SO THERE’S A NATURE OF A LEAP OF IMAGINATION WHERE THE CREATOR HAS TO FILL IN THE THINGS THAT HE THINKS WERE SAID. JACK AND BOBBY KENNEDY HAD A CONVERSATION AT THE OVAL OFFICE, WE ALL KNOW THAT. WHATEVER THAT PROJECT WAS...‘SIX DAYS IN OCTOBER’...WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER. YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT THEY SAID. WILLIAM DEVANE, I THINK, PLAYED PRESIDENT KENNEDY AND MARTIN SHEEN PLAYED BOB KENNEDY. IT’S THE SAME TYPE OF THING WITH THIS ‘HOOVER’ PROJECT. THERE WERE THINGS THAT THE CREATORS WERE IMAGINING, BASED ON WHAT WE KNOW. THESE TYPES OF THINGS HAD A VERY GOOD LIKELIHOOD OF HAPPENING. AND THERE WAS SOMEBODY WHO DIDN’T BELIEVE THAT.

6) TOM’S OWN SUSPICIONS

I HAD A CERTAIN JACKET, I PROBABLY, MY WIFE, I JUST RECENTLY MARRIED, SHE WAS MY GIRLFRIEND FOR A LONG TIME AND NOW SHE’S MY WIFE (LAUGHS). BUT I HAD THIS CERTAIN PAIR OF JEANS I LIKED TO WEAR TO MEETINGS ON MOVIES BECAUSE I HAD GOTTEN MY FIRST JOB IN THESE JEANS...FIRST SIGNIFICANT JOB, WHICH WAS ‘HEART AND SOULS,’ WHICH WAS BACK, I THINK, IN 1991. IT’S ALMOST ‘97 SO THESE JEANS ARE...AND I’D HAD THESE JEANS ALREADY FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. MY PUBLICIST IS LAUGHING BECAUSE SHE KNOWS THESE JEANS. MY EXCUSE FOR WEARING THEM WAS I GOT MY FIRST BIG JOB IN THESE JEANS AND THEY’RE IMPORTANT JEANS. AND I CAN’T THROW THESE JEANS OUT, AND I WANT TO WEAR THEM. THEY’RE NOT VERY GOOD LOOKING ANY MORE. THEY’RE RIPPED UP. I LOOK LIKE A GRUNGE KID IN THEM WISH IS KIND OF COOL FOR A TEENAGER BUT I’M 34! AND MY WIFE DIDN’T LIKE THEM SO I DID HAVE TO RETIRE THE JEANS! I HAVE SINCE BEEN HIRED. I WAS HIRED TO DO ‘HOOVER’ (LAUGHS). I DIDN’T HAVE THE JEANS ON!

REVIEW - Strange Days

Okay, it’s coming up to New Year’s Eve, 1999, and Lenny, (Ralph Fiennes), has been sent a ‘clip;’ a digitally recording where the viewer is able to feel every emotion of the person who had the original experience. This clip just happens to end with the death of a close friend of Lenny’s ex-girlfriend, Faith, (Juliette Lewis), and Lenny becomes concerned about her safety.

This movie has a great cast: Tom, Juliette, Ralph, Vincent D’onofrio, Michael Wincott and Angela Bassett. As much as I hate sci-fi pictures this just happens to be incredibly watchable. Tom, Juliette, Vincent and Ralph are wonderful in their roles. This is not to say that the rest of the cast aren’t, I’m just extremely biased!

My only problem lies with the hairdresser. He/she seems to have taken great pleasure in making some of my favourite actors look dreadful. In my opinion this is a crime that should be punishable by death. Juliette with red hair I can deal with, (kinda reminded me of Micki from the band Lush), but DO NOT MAKE TOM WEAR WIGS!!!!

A couple of scenes are quite hard to watch but that is due to the excellence of the acting more than anything else. This movie is superbly tense and drags you onto the edge of your seat for most of it’s duration, This is not to be filed under ‘Easy Viewing’ beside ‘Heart And Souls!’

‘Strange Days,’ although violent, is an intelligent thriller that deserves your attention.

PRESS CUTTING - NEW HOME FOR THE SIZEMORE'S

Tom Sizemore, who plays the infamous John Gotti in the upcoming NBC miniseries "Witness to the Mob" and his actress wife, Maeve Quinlan, a former pro tennis player, have bought a gated home in the Beverly Hills area for close to its $1.35-million asking price. The couple's new 2,800-square-foot, three-bedroom home was built in the 1950s and was remodelled two years ago. Marci Merliss of Coldwell Banker-Jon Douglas Co. in Beverly Hills had the listing, and Randy Haessig of Nourmand and Associates in Beverly Hills represented the buyers. Now in his early 30s, Sizemore co-stars with Tom Hanks and Matt Damon in the Steven Spielberg film "Saving Private Ryan," scheduled to be released July 24.

"Witness to the Mob" - produced by Robert De Niro, is scheduled to air on NBC May 10 and 11. Sizemore's acting credits also include the role of a detective in"Natural Born Killers" (1994) and one as of De Niro's accomplices to crime in the film "Heat" (1995).Quinlan plays the role of Megan in the daytime drama series "The Bold and the Beautiful." She and Sizemore also just finished a collaborative effort, "The Florentine," a film co-starring James Belushi, Mary Stuart Masterson and Michael Madsen.

SAVING PRIVATE RYAN - A SYNOPSIS

June 6, 1944. D-Day. The Allies launch the biggest invasion in military history as millions in war-ravaged Europe wait and hope. But even as vast armies storm the beaches, a crack unit of troops is ordered to find and retrieve one man: Private James Ryan.

From Academy Award-winning director Steven Spielberg comes the World War II drama "Saving Private Ryan," a co-production of DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures.

" Saving Private Ryan " is a story of heroism and sacrifice set in France during and just after the D-Day invasion of World War II. On the beaches of Normandy, great military forces are converging for the battle that would decide the course of the war. But behind enemy lines, a squad of U.S. Army soldiers, featuring TOM SIZEMORE as the Sarge, led by Captain John Miller (TOM HANKS), are putting their lives on the line on a perilous, mission to find paratrooper James Ryan (MATT DAMON).

As the soldiers push deep into enemy territory, moving from one danger to the next, Captain Miller and his men find themselves questioning their orders. Why is one man worth risking eight...why is the life of this private worth more than their own?

Great things are already being predicted for the movie which, in places, is said to be even more harrowing than "Schindler's List."

MORE "Saving Private Ryan' IN THE NEXT ISSUE

PRESS CUTTING - SIZEMORE SHOOTS IN ENGLAND!

Tom has been filming in England for "Saving Private Ryan." "They took us to the forest somewhere in England" Tom says, "All we had was World War II blankets and rations. It was so hard. All the actors were woken at 4:30am and neither he nor Hanks got let off any of the training. "Tom and I had to run down the front, I threw up all down my shirt the first day"

REVIEW -"Witness to the Mob"

Rather then glamorise the mob lifestyle, this movie portrays it more as a dirty business where guys hide behind their so-called honour while they kill their friends and family. Tom is great in this movie. Both literally and figuratively, he's very big. Some reports say he gained at least 30 pounds, but it looks like at least forty or more. As a very ambitious and flamboyant John Gotti, Tom gets to gesture wildly and yell a lot. He first appears half-way through the first part of this two part mini-series. This movie doesn't show much of the corruption reported in the media, and it has about one tenth the cursing as a Scorsese flick. I liked seeing Abe Vigoda, I had almost thought he had died or something. Several of the other cast members have appeared in other Mafia related movies (GoodFellas and Casino).

Many thanks to Susan from "The Unofficial Tom Sizemore Fan Site," for the review. Susan also informed us that after being shown on US TV, the show was made available via tele-sale for a limited time on video. We are still awaiting confirmation of international showing times.

HOOVER OFF!

The HBO film project on the life of J. Edgar Hoover scheduled to begin shooting in Toronto has been cancelled. "I was literally getting into the limo to go to the airport in Los Angeles when I got the call that the project had been cancelled," Tom says. "They told us we couldn't make any references to Hoover's (alleged) homosexuality." Rumour has it that it was Time Warner Boss, Ted Turner, who put a spanner in the works due to the fact that producers wouldn't leave out scenes concerning Hoove's homosexuality. Reports claim it was also Turner who managed to keep "Crash" from being seen in the U.S., because it offended him. Tom adds "It's a shame because it was a powerful look at the contradictions in the man."

ANSWERS AT BOTTOM!!!!!

PRESS CUTTING -"SIZING UP A ROLE"

He packed on 40 extra pounds to play Mafia boss John Gotti in the NBC miniseries Witness to the Mob, airing May 10-11. So is Tom Sizemore a glutton for punishment? "I had to gain the weight, and not just because Robert De Niro did it for Raging Bull and his company was producing Witness to the Mob," says Sizemore, 36. "I did it because that's what I had to do to feel real. The man couldn't lay off the cannoli. John Gotti's belly was a sign of his success. He was a big man in every way, and that was his tragic flaw." Even so, the weight gain was a lot for the actor to digest. "I got the part right after I finished making Saving Private Ryan for Steven Spielberg," says Sizemore ."I was in the best shape of my life -- 180 lbs., all muscle -- from playing a World War II sergeant. It was fun being a pig for about a week -- then it was work. I got sick of eating so much." Now on a diet under a doctor's supervision, Sizemore says, "It's a nightmare. Look at me -- for months, I gotta eat egg whites."

BOOK REVIEW

"Underboss" by Peter Maas

(Sammy "The Bul" Gravano's Story Of Life In the Mafia)

I believe this book is what the mini-series, "Witness to the Mob" is based upon. I have a certain weakness for this kind of subject matter anyway, but ironically, I just happened to buy a copy of it the day after I met Tom (Sorry, am I going on a bit?). It is easily one of the best Mafia books I've read since Joseph D. Pistone's biography ("Donnie Brasco"). And, as always, the fact that a true account always helps.

Gravano appears to have remained the family's most dependable figure up until the day he betrayed John Gotti (who is played by Tom in the mini-series) early in 1990.

As in most of these books you feel yourself building a sort of liking for the character, whether you want to or not. This is no exception. At every moment Gravano is pointing out that everything he did he did to give his family a better life. He mentions several times that he never wanted to be rich, just be in a position to make sure that everyone around him was in a comfortable position.

This is a superb book, whether John Gotti would tell things differently we don't know, but this is one of the clearest insights into the Mafia that there has ever been. Even if the subject matter does not normally interest you this is definitely a "must read." Available on Harper - Non Fiction books.

SAMMY THE BULL!

Jane Rosenthal, producer on "Wag The Dog," is producing the NBC miniseries on Sammy "The Bull" Gravano starring Tom and Nick Turturro. Tom plays John Gotti in the programme. For kind of an "on-set" report which will tell you nothing about the series, I think that's what was being filmed when I met him, so check out "Meeting the Maker." Rumour has it that Tom alienated the cast and crew by "yelling, shouting and throwing furniture" and that upon finishing the production someone set fire to his chair. The rumour comes from yet another group of idle gossip-hounds, desperate for a news story. Tom's co-star in "Heat," Val Kilmer, has being going through the same personal criticism for years and it hasn't done his career any harm!

IT's.........QUIZTIME! - THE RESULTS

(1) Wyatt Earp (2) Born On The Fourth Of July (3) Jamie Lee Curtis (4) Bold And The Beautiful (5) NBK and Strange Days (6) 2; Heat and Guilty By Suspicion (7) Thief (8) Robert Pastorelli played Tom's brother in Striking Distance and is Fitz in the US version of Cracker (9) Flight Of The Intruder (10) c (11) Detroit (12) Cousin (13) She was shot from the roof of a water tower (14) J. Edgar Hoover (15) "Wool Cap"

How Did You Do?

1 -5 Did you send for this because it's free? You spend too much time in bright daylight and therefore have dry skin, little in the way of movie conversation and a life, probably!

6 -10 You love movies but you still find time to have a social life, as long as it includes the cinema at least three times a week. You're not obsessed but you're not far off.

11 - 15 Unless you ARE Tom Sizemore, (Hi! Tom), you either cheated, have no social life, (if it doesn't exist on a screen), or are obsessed and need to see a shrink!
